Going Remote in this Crazy Time

Awesome Otter is a branding and design agency, and like most agencies, our world is digital. That meant that when we had to go remote quickly, it was not as huge of a hassle for us as it has been for many other companies. While we do miss our studio space and seeing each other in person, we made the transition effortlessly with the following tools:

  • Slack

    • Yeah, we know, everyone uses Slack. No big reveal here. But it is useful, and we love it for its clean interface and user-friendly design

    • Setting channels per client helps us streamline messages and keeps our communications tidy

    • The free version is pretty robust, considering it is free. You can make calls, but you can't share your screen

    • Slack syncs with other apps like Google, DropBox, Zoom and Trello so it plays well with others

  • Google Hangouts

    • It's our go-to for video-conferencing

    • We use internally and externally with clients

  • Dropbox

    • Our go-to for file sharing and file management

    • We have a lot of photographs and other images we need quick and easy access

    • It also allows us an easy way to share files with clients

  • Asana

    • It's our team's choice for a project management tool

    • The interface is clean, simple and user friendly

    • You can adjust the dashboard to a list of tasks, or a board or a calendar - it depends on which works best for you

    • The platform allows you to assign tasks and reminds you of upcoming deadlines

    • Here is a snapshot of our project on our internal marketing endeavors

  • Clockify

    • Time tracking for agencies is always a tricky thing to manage. We turned to Clockify and found it is helpful and easy to use. It is also free. Yes, free!

    • Our trusty CFO (and designer and HR manager and office manager) Zachary loves Clockify for the following reasons

      • The free version works well for our small team

      • We can accurately track multiple projects for each client

      • With the Chrome extension, we can click the Clockify icon that appears next to Asana projects, calendar events, and even emails. It makes it easy to start tracking a project

      • He can run reports based on dates, team members, projects, and clients. Doing this helps us stay on budget and bill accurately
